WELL – Gregor Townsend certainly gave the rugby scribes some thinking room, when he announced the South American Tour party this morning. No FINN RUSSELL, no STUART HOGG and no CHRIS HARRIS. Six uncapped players, definitely much to discuss.
It might well be that Harris is being given a well-deserved break, he's played a lot of rugby of late in a demanding position , but, the big talking point will be the absence of Scotland's only two genuinely world-class players.
Has there indeed been a massive fall-out?
Is this a case of Toony drawing a line as to who's the boss?
Is this the end of the stellar pair's Scotland career?
Did they ask for the summer off?
So many question, will we ever get answers? And, if we do, will we believe what we are told?
In part the selection has been weighed by the need to put-out a Scotland A team against Chile in the opening game. I could see a team something like: Jamie Bhatti, Ewan Ashman, Javan Sebastian, Jamie Hodgson, Glen Young, Ben Muncaster, Rory Darge, Magnus Bradbury; Ben White, Ross Thompson, Rufus McLean, Rory Hutchison, Matt Currie, Kyle Rowe, Ollie Smith starting that one, to get the new boys played-in.
The questions will arise when we get to Argentina.
Who starts at ten – Blair Kinghorn or Adam Hastings?
Depending on that decision, might the other player start at 15?
Aye, it's starting to look like an interesting tour.
Any way, before we get into the speculating, congratulations have to go to the six new boys - Murphy Walker, Glen Young, Ben Muncaster, Matt Currie, Kyle Rowe and Ollie Smith, all of whom have been selected on the back of consistently good form for their clubs. I wonder which, of any of them, will return with that first cap in their baggage.
